Hobbes loves the taste of tuna. Calvin sometimes uses this to his advantage.The first Calvin and Hobbes comic strip shows Calvin going off to check his tiger trap and when his Dad commented on this he said "Tigers will do anything for a tuna fish sandwich" in the last panel Hobbes is shown hanging by his foot saying "we're kind of stupid that way." On one christmas he gave Hobbes multiple cans of tuna, which Hobbes gladly accepts.Actually,Hobbes gives Calvin the the tuna first,but Calvin didn't get him anything,so Hobbes suggested he give it back to him saying it would be a great present.

Hobbes has sleepwalked to get tuna from the kitchen. Calvin's parents wondered why Calvin would get up in the middle of the night to pull tuna cans out of the cupboard; Calvin, however, claims that this was Hobbes' doing and called him a dope,but Calvin's dad put him back to bed anyway.He still doubted Hobbes' reality. When Calvin opens a can, Hobbes comes running and pounces on him, regardless of the can's content.
