Calvin's doctor is a pediatrician with a wry sense of humor. As with most adults, Calvin isn't too fond of his doctor, and he is one of the few characters who terrifies Calvin.

The doctor is not mean -- he is quite calm and patient, actually -- but Calvin often takes his jokes literally. He, like most adults, loses his temper when Calvin misbehaves too much. Only once did Calvin behave, when he was badly ill.

Most of the later strips had Spaceman Spiff featured against the doctor, pictured as a sinister alien.
